After being voted the second Best European Destination in 2019, Braga has reached the top of voter preferences, chosen as the Best European Destination in 2021 by the Best Destinations in Europe.
The city received a total of 109,902 votes from internet users, consolidating itself as an internationally recognised reference for international tourism. The city of Rome came in second, with just over 78,000 votes.
In this edition of the European Best Destination, the organisation highlighted Braga’s capacity to mobilise support for its candidacy from around the whole of Portugal. Braga was the favourite destination of travellers from Brazil and the United Kingdom, and one of the top choices for travellers from the United States and France.
According to Braga’s mayor, Ricardo Rio, the result “fills us with pride and will certainly have extremely positive effects on tourism and the local, regional and national economies for the coming years.”
