The winners of the 2020 edition of the André Jordan Prize were announced last Friday at a ceremony organised by Confidencial Imobiliário magazine, broadcast online and presented by its director, Ricardo Guimarães. The André Jordan Prize recognises the most relevant, current academic and scientific work on the economics of cities, tourism and real estate.

The edition was divided into two parts, with the winners of the biennial event announced at the beginning, and a second part which included a panel discussion, with the participation of António Costa e Silva, Augusto Mateus and Carlos Moedas, where the opportunities that may arise for Portugal during the pandemic crisis were discussed.

Of the 47 papers submitted to the jury, Ana Fernandes, from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, won in the Master’s Dissertations category, with the theme “Housing price dynamics in Portugal – the key factors in the housing market”. In the PhD Thesis/Scientific Articles category, Khadija Benis, from the Higher Technical Institute of the University of Lisbon, won with her thesis on the theme “Building-Integrated Agriculture (BIA) in urban contexts – methodological contributions to sustainability assessments.” In the same category, Francisco Portugal e Gomes, of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, was awarded an Honourable Mention for his thesis “Portuguese Regional Architecture Survey: contribution to the understanding of the causes of the “Portuguese housing” problem.”

The editions cover work completed in the previous two years, and the organisation has already invited Dr José Covas, current President of the Board of RICS in Portugal and Managing Partner – Head of Aura Ree Portugal, to chair the next edition.
