U.hub Group Begins Construction of Student Residence in Alta de Lisboa

Gabriel Couto was chosen to build the group's largest student residence in Portugal.

With an investment plan designed for Lisbon and Porto, the U.hub Investments Group began the construction last month of its fourth student residence in Lisbon, this time in Alta de Lisboa. U.hub, the leader in the student residence market in Portugal, has more than 2,000 rooms and is planning other projects in the capital and Porto. Forecasts are that the total investment will exceed 60 million euros.

The firm awarded construction to Gabriel Couto, based in Vila Nova de Famalicão and one of the largest builders in the country. The new development for Lumiar university was designed by the renowned architectural studio PG – Arquitectos Associados and will be implemented in four lots, with the planned construction of eight above-ground floors and one underground floor in each of the buildings, with a total construction area of over 15,500 m2.

More than 11,000 m2 of surface area will be for student residences, including 498 flats of different sizes. The development will have collective support spaces for leisure, socialising, leisure, work and study, with large areas and all the requisite facilities. Each of the buildings will be occupied by a students’ residence, except for two places for commerce and services on the ground floor.

The flats use a multinuclear model, which groups an average set of eight individual rooms organised around a common area. Its model permits a decentralised organisation pattern that groups small autonomous communities with functional independence, allowing operational management more efficiently.
