Turismo de Portugal Moves Ahead With Architectural Competition in Estoril

22 December 2020 – Turismo de Portugal has opened a public tender for the architectural design of part of the mega-development that has been approved for Estoril. The auction is expected to be finalised by the end of February, in another stage in the development of the future tourism complex, next to the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism.

The project includes a 150-room hotel, an 80-room student residence and the World Tourism Organization Academy. The site will boast a total of 21,000 m2 of surface area dedicated to training facilities for Portugal’s tourism sector, ranging from technical professional teaching to executive programmes. The project represents an investment of 24 million euros (40% of which to be financed by the private sector). The project also includes the renovation of the 7,000-m2 current school building to upgrade its facilities to meet new needs for training.

Several public and private entities are funding the project, including the NOVA University of Lisbon; CITUR; Estoril Hotel and Tourism College and Turismo de Portugal, as well as private groups such as the Pestana Group, PortoBay, Vila Galé, Hoti, Martinhal, Vip, among others. The consortium aims to address the tourism sector’s needs for training, while also including Tourism in the areas of Sciences and the Humanities.
