Production in Construction Falls 1.6% in March

The Production in Construction Index fell by 1.6% in March.

According to the Production in Construction Index released yesterday by the National Statistics Institute, production in construction fell by 1.6% in March, 2.0 percentage points higher than in February.

The employment and wage indices showed year-on-year increases of 0.7% and 5.9%, respectively (vs -0.4% and 0.1% in the previous month).

The construction output index declined by 1.6% in March (-3.6% in the previous month). The Building Construction segment contracted by 3.1% (-4.8% in February) and the Civil Engineering segment increased by 0.5% in March, 2.2 percentage points higher than in February.

Regarding the Employment and Compensation Indices, the National Statistics Institute reported increases of 0.7% and 5.9% y-o-y in March (vs -0.4 and 0.1% in the previous month). The employment and remuneration indices, compared to February, increased by 0.9% and 4.0%, (vs -0.3% and -1.7%, respectively, in the same period of 2020).

The Production in Construction Index, prepared by INE, aims to show, on a regular basis, the evolution of the production volume in the short term.
