Construction Output Up 7.7% In June

The figure translates into a slowdown of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous month.

The Construction Output Index rose by 7.7% in June, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous month. The data stem from the Construction Output, Employment and Wages Indices, published yesterday by the National Statistics Institute – INE.

According to INE, this result is 0.8% lower than that observed in June 2019. Employment and remunerations increased by 2.5% and 8.5% y-o-y (vs 3.0% and 12.9% in the previous month), respectively.

The Construction Output Index went from a growth of 8.1% in May to 7.7% in June. This change largely reflects a base effect, given that the same month was affected by the pandemic, and the index decreased by 7.9%.

Portugal’s National Statistics Office reported a 4.5% increase in Building Construction, compared to 5.4% in May. At the same time, Civil Engineering Output accelerated by 0.3% to 12.6%.

According to the INE’s analysis, the employment and wage indices rose by 2.5% and 8.5%, respectively, in June (vs 3% and 12.9% in the previous month). Compared to May, the indices increased by 0.2% and 9.9%, respectively (0.7% and 14.3% in June 2020).
